The surveying experience starts here

After another successful series of events in 2017, RMIT is again hosting their monthly Experience Surveying Days in 2018 – and they’ve just announced the new run of dates.

Held in Fairfield at RMIT University’s field station, these events are the perfect chance for students from year 10 through 12 to step into the shoes of a surveyor and see what the job entails.

RMIT University has been offering this unique learning experience for a number of years now. It’s an outdoors afternoon that has inspired school-leavers to hunt down study pathways that could lead to successful roles in the surveying profession.

Keeping students engaged and curious

There are countless studies that show that, more often than not, school field trips prove valuable learning experiences.

An effective field trip is all about involvement. Those that allow students to touch and use equipment, or engage with their surroundings in a meaningful way, are more likely to effectively build on classroom instruction or illustrate study topics.

Excursions like the RMIT Experience Surveying Day are designed to broaden the learning process while making a subject more relevant.

That’s why the day will give students the opportunity to see industry equipment like laser scanners, total stations and GPS systems. Participants will get to use the tech to engage with and then solve problems.

This year’s days run monthly from February through to December. Each session goes from 2pm for an hour on a Thursday afternoon.
